This shows the post office which at that time was run by Mr Neale, who can be seen in the doorway. The post office also appears to have sold drapery as some can be seen through the shop window. Letters arrived from Nuneaton at 7.30 am and again at 6.15 pm (for callers only) and were dispatched at 6.30 am and 6.05 pm.
The little girl with her finger in her mouth is Laura Neale, daughter of Mr Neale. Next door to the post office lived Mrs Catherine Kirkland who had a small shop here. Note the thatched cottages taking us back to the Barlestone of the 1700's or earlier. The ones in the background were demolished in the 1930's and the one in the foreground is still standing but now with a tiled roof. As yet we have unmade roads and cobbled footpaths in places. The roads are remarkably free of any kind of traffic.
