William and Elizabeth Blower
In 1920 William Blower was one of three Leicestershire miners who were placed on the Commission of Peace for the County. He was born in Barlestone in 1873 and attended the Church of England School until he was between 11 and 12 years of age he went to work at Nailstone Colliery but continued to attend evening continuation classes. Afterwards he attended the Technical Education Classes held at the National Schools, Ibstock, twice a week and had homework to do for two years. In his early days he was appointed treasurer of the Barlestone Church Friendly Society, later being appointed Secretary. He was Chairman of the Barlestone Parish Council and had been a member of this since the Council was formed. He was a manager of Barlestone Schools for over 20 years and was also Peoples Warden at St Giles Church. William Blower Born 8 March 1873, Died 14 November 1936. Elizabeth Blower Born 8 March 1873, Died 21 January 1961.

The Neale Family
Frederick Neale was the village Tailor at the turn of the century and he later took over the running of the village post office, in Bagworth Road - a job he did until his death in March 1928, at the age of 60. This photograph was taken outside the Maynard Arms at Bagworth in the Spring of 1920. Standing up in the pony trap are Lisa Bills holding her baby daughter Emmie together with her husband Willie. Holding the reins is Minnie Saunt and in front of her is Sam, the son of Lisa and Willie Bills. Edie Hill sits holding her baby daughter Nancy and the old lady and gentlemen are Sarah and gentlemen are Sarah and Sam Wallis the parents of LIsa who came from Birmingham. Minnie Saunt and her husband WIlliam are coal hauliers.

Mrs Elizabeth Godfrey and Miss Sarah Godfrey
The first school mistresses of Barlestone CofE schools. Miss Elizabeth Godfrey, the headmistress and her sister Sarah who was her assistant. The salary of the Headmistress was between £25-30 p.a. They taught at the school for a total of 35 years between 1843 and 1877 when they were told that they could not continue as they did not hold a teaching certificate. They lived in the farmhouse in Church Street now occupied by the Undertaker. Elizabeth Godfrey died December 16th 1915 aged 89. Sarah Godfrey died February 15th 1926 aged 91.

John William Martin And His Wife Mary 1890.
John and Mary nee Smalley were married in May 1886. John Martin was born at Newbold Verdon in 1863. He married Mary Smalley of Barlestone in May 1886 when he was 23 years old and his wife was 18 years old. By 1891 he is described as a Coalminer living in Newbold Road with his two daughters, Eliza aged 2 and Ada aged 8 months.

In January 1965 it was announced that Councellor George Gilliver had been appointed as a J.P. for the area. The last J.P. had been appointed thirty years previously and was Mr. W. Blower, an Uncle of Mr Gilliver. Mr Gilliver, in 1965, had been a County Councellor for 4 years and a member of the Market Bosworth R.D.C. for 11 years. He was also the village Undertaker, a position he took over from his father.

Mr Frederick Weston And Florence 1
Mr Weston was the village Carrier who made the daily journey to and from Leicester, carrying passengers for a shilling (1/-) return and parcels at twopence (2d) a time. He also took on the task of doing the shopping for his cleints and his purchases varies from a packet of backache pills to barrels of beer for the publicans. He also carried the bricks for the building of the houses in Bosworth Road and New Street, from Nailstone Wood at a cost of seven shillings and six pence (7/6) per thousand and haulage at two shillihgs and 6 pence (2/6) per journey. He died on Janaury 29th 1947 aged 76 and is buried in St. Giles churchyard.
