Mr Vincent Henry Wood Was The Barlestone Village Baker

Mr Vincent Henry Wood was the Barlestone Village Baker from Circa 1909 to his retirement at the age of 56 in 1932. As early as 1922 Mr Wood had gone over to motorised transport in the shape of a Clyde Chain Driven Bakers Van which was nicknamed "The Rattling Bedstead". This is the only photograph available of it.

              The Rattling Bedstead Was Replaced.

The "Rattling Bedstead" was replaced with this rather smart model by 1930. Mr Wood, standing here, would be about 54 years old.

The Villiage Bakery On The Knob

The Village Bakery on "The Knob", Church Street, Barlestone. This was taken circa 1928. The timbering was painted onto the brickwork. The left hand side of the building has now (1991) been demolished and the whole is now a private residence.
